‘Monkey catching’ mission in full swing; relief to farmers
Amboori: The monkey catching mission of the forest department is progressing on the hill sides to help the farmers.
They trap the monkeys that roam on the premises of Amboori panchayat and later release them into the deep forest areas. Presently, the traps are set up in Puruthipara and Kuttamala. About 20 monkeys were caught. The forest department set up the traps when public rage rose against the inactiveness of authorities, even when the monkeys destroyed the crops and caused public nuisance. The natives also took part in the mission to help the forest department staff.
They demanded that more traps should be placed in other parts of the panchayat. The major problem confronting them is the unavailability of monkey traps.
