Thiruvananthapuram: Actor and Rajya Sabha Member Suresh Gopi asserted that he holds property in Puducherry when Crime Branch interrogated him in connection with the fake registration of his luxury car in Puducherry.

“ I have a farm land in Puducherry. So I used to take my car registered there to visit the place,” said the actor to the Crime Branch officials.

He has produced all the documents of the car registration and declared that he is ready to reappear before the probe team for further interrogation.

A team led by Crime Branch SP S Sreejith questioned Suresh Gopi today. He claimed that he has not violated any rules by registering his vehicle at Puducherry.

Suresh Gopi’s luxury car PY 01 BA 999 Audi Q7 is registered in Puducherry under a fake address. The information given by Suresh Gopi MP in the high court relating to his Puducherry registered vehicle was found fake in an investigation conducted by Mathrubhumi News.

He had informed the court that the vehicle is registered in the address of his flat that he had rented out in Puducherry since 2009. But, in the investigation it was found that even now the flat is occupied by the owners themselves.

The High Court has stayed Suresh Gopi's arrest for a period of three weeks while considering his anticipatory bail plea on December 15.

Asking Suresh Gopi to cooperate with the investigators, the court directed him to appear before the probe team on Thursday. Suresh Gopi had filed an anticipatory bail plea on December 12 in the High Court.

The Crime Branch told the court that the signatures in the notary certificate produced by Suresh Gopi were forged. The signature of the Gazetted officer in the documents that show that the actor is a permanent resident of Puducherry, was found to be forged.

The Crime Branch had booked him on charges of forging documents to evade tax.
