Idukki: Power minister MM Mani said Thursday that only CPI is opposing the Athirappilly power project.

“The Electricity Board’s opinion is that the project should be implemented. The CPM also holds the same view. As the power minister, I also have the same opinion. We will take an appropriate decision in this regard,” Mani said in Delhi.

“The Kurinji sanctuary in Idukki should be protected. There are a lot of issues faced by the farmers who are staying at the place for several decades.  A solution should be found to their issues. All these issues will be examined in the coming days during the ministerial visit. No decision has been taken,” Mani said.

A ministerial team comprising Revenue minister E Chandrasekharan, Forest minister K Raju and Power minister MM Mani will visit the Kurinji sanctuary on December 11 and 12 to hold talks with local people and people’s representatives on disputes regarding fake pattas.
