Munnar eviction drive may be suspended
Thiruvananthapuram: Given the controversy surrounding the removal of encroachments at Munnar, the eviction drive may be suspended.
A decision in this regard was taken at the LDF meeting convened at AKG Centre here on Friday, sources said.
Though the leaders of CPM and CPI voiced differences over the issue, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stood firm on his earlier stance in this regard.
At the meeting, the CM expressed his displeasure over removal of cross without consulting the government, reports say.
Had there been any problem, who would have taken the responsibility, he asked.
A consensus was arrived at the meeting to halt the eviction drive and to decide on future course of action after convening an all-party meeting.
Veteran leader V S Achuthanandan demanded not to worsen the situation.
Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan opined that the officials followed all necessary steps. However, the CM stood adamant that there was lack of alertness on part of officials in handling the issue. As both sides remain unbending, it was decided to convene an all-party meeting.
