Thodupuzha:  Minister MM Mani on Saturday criticised President Pranab Mukherjee for saying that people send their representatives to Parliament to work for the country and not to agitate.

"Before asking MPs to do their job, the President should have told Prime Minister Modi that the scrapping of currency was wrong," Mani said at a public meeting here.

"The President's stand is unfortunate. It will create an impression that Modi's action was correct. . I am responding to the President's statement as nobody has opposed it," Mani added.

Delivering the Defence Estate Day Lecture 2016 on 'Reforms for a stronger democracy' the other day, the President had said that people send their representatives to Parliament to work for the country and not to agitate.

He expressed concern that disruption of parliamentary work has become a practice., "For God's sake, do your job. You are meant to transact business in Parliament,” the President told the MPs.

"Dharnas can be organised anywhere else," he said asking all concerned to debate and discuss issues of public importance in the House.

He said he was not criticising any particular political party but all concerned must work together to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament.
