Thrissur: Underlining the need to press ahead with the Athirappilly power project, Electricity Minister M M Mani said losing forest cover is not a big deal. Electricity is more important, he said today.

The government will not backtrack on the power project and a consensus will be formed to implement it, he said. The complaints regarding destruction of forests due to the project are not serious enough, he said.

He said the Congress had informed the Assembly that they are against the project and there is a difference of opinion within the LDF, Mani said.

Kerala Congress leader and former Finance Minister K M Mani on Sunday said his party is not against the project.
