New Delhi:  Kerala stands among the top in overall Internet readiness, internet in school education, e-seva and Facebook usage says a survey report. According to a report titled Index of Internet Readiness of Indian States, published by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and Nielsen, Kerala stands 3rd in internet readiness.

Internet readiness index is a composite benchmark of four components, ie, e-Infrastructure index, e-Participation index, IT-Environment and government e-services index.

Kerala stands first in providing IT facilities in school education. As many as 4071 secondary and Higher secondary schools in the state are equipped with IT facilities. Broadband-enabled class rooms along with 160 trainers and 5600 school heads as co-ordinators are present in Kerala.

The report which was unveiled by Aruna Sundararajan, secretary, ministry of electronics & information technology, said India will leapfrog from the present 155th position to world's top 5th in connectivity in the next 5-6 years. 

Kerala also ranks number 1 in the number of mobile users and the survey points out that among 100 people, over half of them have smart phones with internet connectivity. Kerala is also leading in other facilities like revenue through mobile users, e-sevas, e-transactions, e-commerce, Facebook users.

The state gets a revenue of Rs 199 from a single mobile user.  The state Data Centre, Kerala state area network, Akshaya centres have also given a push to this.
The report notes that even within smaller states, the northeastern states ranked low in terms of overall Internet readiness.
