Ambalappuzha: PWD Minister G Sudhakaran on Friday refused to inaugurate the construction work of a school building here after he found that the plan was to build just two classrooms with a fund of Rs 55 lakh.

An irked Minister asked the Chief Technical Examiner to inquire and submit a report over the project plan within a week. The incident happened at the Ambalappuzha K K Kunjupilla Smaraka Government Higher Secondary school.

It was Sudhakaran who allotted Rs 55 lakh for constructing a new building for the school from the government’s asset development fund. However, the project plan prepared by two PWD officials contained only 2 class rooms to be built using the said amount.

The contract has already been awarded. The Minister said there is no need to stop the works since the construction has already started.

However, he examined the contract agreement and said the inauguration can be done after getting more clarification on the matter.
