Kochi: The High Court on Monday rejected the bail plea of actor Dileep, who was arrested on charges of conspiracy in the actress attack case.

The court observed that there is clear evidence to prove his role in the case. Terming the case as a rare one, the court noted the crime is of serious nature. Police submitted a total of 19 evidences before the court.

While the prosecution stuck to its stand that Dileep is the kingpin behind incident, the defendant’s counsel argued that there is no evidence to prove the conspiracy charges. The Prosecution had submitted to the court that he will influence the witnesses if granted bail.

The court also approved the scientific evidences presented by the Prosecution and also accepted its stance that there could be more accused in the case. The court also observed that the accused cannot be granted bail since the investigtion is underway.

It further noted that since the petitioner being a noted film actor and producer, he must be weilding considerable command on the industry and that there is possibility of him influencing or threatening several witnesses who are also in the same industry.

The court asked the investigators to find the mobile phone which was used to capture the visuals of the attack on the actress as it is the most important evidence in the case. It also wanted the police to expedite the search for Dileep’s manager Appunni.

The court observed that once the visuals come out, it will pose a threat to the life of the victim. Therefore, bail cannot be granted to the accused, it said.

The actor has already served 14 days in jail. He moved the High Court after the Angamaly Judicial First Class Magistrate Court denied bail to him.

As his remand period ends today, he will be produced before the Angamaly court. Police will seek to extend his remand period.
