Thiruvananthapuram: Despite the anti-drug campaigns in various forms, the state witnessed a Rs 480.14 crore worth liquor sale on Christmas and New Year eves. There was 19.33 percent increase in the liquor sale during the ten days between December 22 to 31 compared to the same period last year.

In 2016, the liquor sale during the last ten days of December was Rs 402.35 crore. There was a sale of Rs 61.74 crore on December 31 this year, whereas it was Rs 59.27 crore last year. The highest sale was conducted in Pavarakkandi outlet in Kannur town with a sale of Rs 67.91 lakh.

The liquor outlet at Palarivattom in Ernakulam had a sale of Rs 66.21 lakh and the outlet at Koppam had a sale of Rs 62.14 lakh. There was a sale of Rs 61 lakh in Irinjalakkuda outlet.
