Man saves suicidal woman from jumping in front of train
Alappuzha: A KSRTC-empanelled conductor saved the life of a 45-year-old woman as he prevented her from jumping in front of a train at the Kalavoor railway gate on Friday mid-night.
Sebastian was returning from Cherthala depot when he saw a woman dressed in night gown racing towards the track from the other side of the closed gate while a train was approaching. After a second of confusion, he called out to her.
As she turned to look back, the train sped away. The alert from Sebastian’s part saved her life.
Later Mannancherry police was informed about the matter and they reached the spot within minutes.
It is learned that the marriage of the woman’s daughter was fixed on August 30, but she eloped with her boyfriend. This led the mother to decide on committing suicide. She had travelled a few kilometers in a scooter to reach the railway gate for this.
Sebastian, a Kattoor native usually return from work by 9 at night. On Friday, the Cherthala - Muvattupuzha bus in which he works broke down at Vyttila and he was late to return.
That was god’s intervention to save a life, he says.
