Neriamangalam: Soon, the housing construction sector in Kerala will see a surge in the number of women masons, thanks to the new training programme of the Kudumbashree initiative.

As a first step, women, who received training in mason works at Kavalangad panchayat, has been employed in the construction of a house which is being built at free-of-cost by CDS Kudumbashree.

The house is constructed for Soshamma Ithappi on Unnukal as part of the ‘Swapnakkoodu’ project.

The training was provided by Kudumbashree Ernakulam District Mission under the Kalamassery Rajagiri Training Centre. The first batch included 28 selected Kudumbashree members from Kothamangalam thaluk.

In the next phase, Kudumbashree members from other taluks will be given training in mason works. With more women workers entering the construction sector, the shortage of labour in this field is expected to come down.
