Periya: When schools are arranging smart classrooms with hi-tech facilities, Periya Govt. Higher Secondary School is experimenting a unique mode of teaching with eco-friendly classrooms. Now students can learn lessons in the class arranged under the shade of a banyan tree. Two classrooms will be opened under the banyan tree on Monday.

The two eco-friendly classrooms can accommodate 80 students. Aalthara, a platform was raised under the banyan tree to conduct the classes. K.D Omanakuttan, an art teacher at the school has sponsored the construction of this platform here.

Omanakuttan who has been serving in the school since 28 years has spent Rs 1 lakh to arrange the platform for the eco-friendly classroom.

Alumni associations have sponsored the seats in the classrooms. A herbal garden is also arranged near the classroom.

The school authority initiated preparations to launch smart classrooms with the help of the natives and alumni association. Abdullah Shafi, an old student, has sponsored Rs 3 lakh to construct a complex for smart classrooms here.

Education Minister Prof. C Raveendranath will inaugurate the smart classrooms on Monday at 2.30 pm. A. Kunjambu Nair, who made an organic vegetable garden at the school, will be honoured in the ceremony.
