Two held for drug peddling in Kochi
Kochi: Kochi Police have nabbed two drug peddlers and seized more than 300 narcotic ampoules and around 30 Nitrazepam capsules from them. The duo had brought the narcotics to Kochi for sale during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Police said that they have received information of chances of Kochi becoming a centre for rave parties as the authorities have enforced strict regulations in conducting such parties in Goa and Bengaluru.
In a joint operation, Kochi City Shadow Police and Central police nabbed Kanyakumari native Manikandan alias Kulacha Mani and Nagercoil native Suresh.
The special investigation team formed to deal with secret rave parties had decided to conducted raids from December 10 to January 10 in the name Operation Duster. The team is led by Crime Detachment ACP Biji George. The huge haul of drugs was seized as part of this operation.
Police have seized buprenorphine ampoules which are used as pain relievers for cancer patients. The medicine is sold in Kerala under strict prescription norms. The ampoules which are collected from Delhi at Rs 30 per ampoules were brought to Kerala in train.
Police said the ampoules are sold in Kerala at Rs 500 per ampoule.
