Grandchildren steal woman's money using ATM card
Kaduthuruthy: Grandmother’s money deposited in bank was stolen by her grandchildren. Kattamback native Sarojini Kunjukkutty (88) had deposited Rs 1,60,000 in her bank account, which her son’s daughters Divyamol (36) and Bindumol (44) stole, said police.
According to the police, Sarojini Amma has been living alone in a 4 cent plot after the death of her husband. The land property was already divided among her children. When her granddaughters, who were also divorcees, demanded plot to build house, she gave her 3 cent plot to them for Rs 1.5 lakh. They deposited the money in her bank account and gave her the passbook as well. Later, when the ATM card was sent by post, the women received it from postman and withdrew the money.
Sarojini Amma realized that the money is lost, only when she tried to withdraw cash to buy her medicines. Apart from the Rs 1.5 lakh deposited, she also lost the pension amount in the account. Thus she lodged a complaint with the police, said Kaduthuruthy sub-inspector K. K. Shamsu. The culprits were presented before Vaikom court.
