Karipur: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 6.29 kg gold worth Rs 1.92 crore that was being smuggled by two passengers who arrived in separate flights at the Kozhikode International Airport.

DRI found 27 gold bars from Kozhikode Koodaranji Koombara native Shihabuddin who arrived by Air Arabia G-945 Sharjah-Kozhikode flight from Riyadh. The gold bars were hidden inside a micro digit rechargeable fan by removing the battery. The gold weighed 3147 grams and is worth Rs 95.82 lakhs in Indian market.

Another 27 gold bars were seized from Kozhikode Narikkuni native Sajeer, who arrived by the Etihad EY-254 Abudhabi-Kozhikode flight from Riyadh. DRI found the gold bars hidden inside the speaker of a teddy bear shaped portable microphone in his baggage. The gold weighed 3147.5 grams, which is worth Rs 95.84 lakh in Indian market.

Both the persons are carriers of a smuggling racket in Koduvally. They were assigned to smuggle gold by a Koduvally native who got acquainted with them from Riyadh, offering them Rs. 20,000 and flight ticket as commission. Both were arrested and later let out on bail.
