Mumbai: Amid rising number of train theft cases along Konkan Railway, two families from Kerala were robbed of gold worth Rs 6 lakh and cash while travelling in Mumbai LTT - Kochuveli Express along the route.

Palakkad-native V Balakrishnan and R Pradeep from Mumbai lost 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery. Both the families were travelling in the same coach.

Chengannur-native Pradeep lost 15 sovereigns of gold and Rs 6000 from his wife’s hand bag. Balakrishnan lost Rs 20,000 in cash and 14 sovereigns of gold. The theft occurred when the family members were sleeping. The bags were kept on the berth.

They have filed complaint with police.

In the last one month alone, as many as ten incidents of theft were reported by Malayalees along this route.
