‘Mahabharatam’, an adaptation of renowned writer M T Vasudevan Nair’s novel ‘Randamoozham’ will be made with a whopping budget of Rs 1000 crore. If realized, the Mohanlal-starrer epic drama will rewrite the record set by any Indian movie in terms of expenditure.

Industrialist B R Shetty is producing the movie. The movie’s script is penned by MT himself. Mohanlal will play the mythological character Bhima, who is the protagonist in Randamoozham.

The movie will be directed by noted ad director V A Sreekumar Menon, who has been doing extensive research on the subject. The movie will be made in two parts.

The shooting for the first part will begin in September and is expected to hit the screens in 2020. The second part will be released 90 days after the first part. Apart from Malayalam, it will also be made in Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu.

There is also a plan to dub the movie into other foreign languages. It is learned that leading actors in Bollywood and some Hollywood biggies will also be part of the project.

The movie will be made in global standards. International technicians and the application of latest technology will make the movie a visual treat.

B R Shetty, who is the founder of UAE Exchange and NMS Healthcare, said the movie will be made with all the grandeur and greatness of the epic Mahabharata. “It was my dream to recreate our rich culture and glorious past on the silver screen and present it before the global audience,” he said.

Speaking about the project, MT said that Randamoozham is being made into a movie after a research of 20 years. Though many people approached me for making it into a movie, it did not happen because it is a vast subject and needed such a huge canvas,” he added.

Sreekumar Menon said that he sees it as a blessing to have an opportunity to turn one of MT’s classic novels into a movie.
