AAI to inspect final arrangements at Kannur airport
Kannur: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will inspect the technical arrangements which are almost complete at the Kannur airport. The AAI officials will visit Kannur in January.
Calibration flight of AAI will reach here to inspect the technical works.
AAI will also inspect signal facility at Kozhikode International Airport. AAI will inspect both airports in January.
Air Traffic Control Signal facility will be established at Kannur airport. Work is underway to install Doppler very high frequency Omnidirectional Range (DVOR) at the airport. As part of the work, Radio Construction and Development unit of AAI will visit the airport.
Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) managing director P Balakiran has informed the progress of the work to AAI and Director General of Civil Aviation. AAI will inform the date of inspection after receiving a complete report of the work here.
AAI’s Calibration flight will fly over Kannur airport to inspect the signal facility. The flight will fly over the airport in different distances for at least 4 hours.
A total of 681 CISF commandos will be deployed at Kannur airport.
Kannur airport will get civil aviation license after obtaining clearance of AAI. Though 18 airlines have informed willingness to start service from Kannur, a feasibility study should be conducted by the authority.
