Kurukku Kalan is a traditional variety of delicacy made during festivals in Kerala. On the occasion of Onam, let's prepare Kurukku Kalan which is an inevitable dish of Kerala Sadya. 

Yam (chopped into medium pieces): 250 gm
Raw Plantian (chopped into medium pieces) : 250 gm
Chilli powder: 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder: 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek seeds: 2 pinch
Mustard seeds: 1/4 tsp 
Dry red chilli: 3 nos
Cumin seeds: 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves: 1 string
Green chilli: 3 nos
Curd/Yogurt: 1 cup
Grated Coconut: 1 cup
Ghee: 1 tsp
Salt: As required

First make a paste of grated coconut, green chilli, turmeric powder and cumin seeds. Take chopped vegetable in a kadai and add two cups of water, vertically chopped green chilli, turmeric powder, salt and cook it medium heat. After 7-8 minutes, add chilli powder and ghee. Add coconut paste and allow it to simmer. When it becomes thick, add curd into the curry. No need to heat up the curry after adding curd. Finally splutter mustard seeds, dry red chilli, fenugreek seeds and curry leaves and mix it with the curry. Close the kadai for 5 minutes. Now, tasty 'Kurukku Kalan' is ready. You can serve it with rice.
