A 7th std disabled student's request to CM to upgrade school

Mukkam: “Respected Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, please help me to be successful with better education,” wrote seventh standard student Asim to the chief minister.

In his letter, he requested the chief minister to upgrade his school to a high school. But it is not just a demand but a request of a boy who wants to be successful in life by challenging his disabilities with education.

“Sir, I don’t have two hands from birth. I have a disability with my legs too. I need assistance to go to school and for my basic needs. My parents should accompany me to school to give food and take me for basic needs. So please upgrade my UP School to High School,” Asim writes in his letter. READ MORE

Insulin pump fixed on body, Sunu keeps rhythm on stage

Panthalam: Sunu has the insulin pump pinned to her stomach all the time, even when she dances on the stage. Despite the pain of needle piercing into her body, Sunu keeps the rhythm as she is so much passionate about dance. Sunu was affected with juvenile diabetes when she was a student of class 1.

12-year-old Sunu is the daughter of Panthalam Kurambala native Sabu George and Anu. She is a class 7 student of Perumpulikkal SRV UP school. She is practicing for her debut performance on November 27. She has already proved her talent in several competitions. READ MORE

The only Keralite woman SI in BSF, proud moment for Lathika

Shoranur: Bidding farewell to her teaching career, Lathika is going to protect the borders of the nation. Panamanna Ambalavattam native Lathika (27) has completed her training in Border Security Force (BSF). She has been directed to join as Sub-inspector on December 12. Lathika is the only woman from Kerala to be selected as sub-inspector in BSF.

She was selected to the force in November 2016, and took part in the one-year long training session including the adventure training at Dehradun. But the training session for border observation at Punjab was rather tough for Lathika. READ MORE

Divya writes to CM, her school finally gets a bus

Ooruttambalam: Ooruttambalam Government LP School has been allotted a school bus after Divya, a class 4 student of the school, wrote a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The chief minister had told the students about the importance of avoiding plastic when he visited the school to inaugurate the admission fete. Divya has mentioned in her letter that she and her friends had started using ink pen as suggested by the chief minister. In her letter, she also had mentioned about the lack of transportation facilities in the school. READ MORE

Naidu accepts Diya's invite, ready for students' interaction on next visit

Kochi: Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has promised eighth standard student Diya Anne Jose that he will interact with the young generation in Kerala in his next visit. Diya, a student in Chavara CMI Public School at Pala in Kottayam, has invited the Vice-President to take part in a debate programme titled ‘Meet the National Leaders’.

She visited the Vice-President who was on a visit to Kerala at the Guest House in Kochi. 

‘Meet the National Leaders’ is organised by KR Narayanan Foundation to make a platform for students to interact with national leaders and promote nationalism and patriotism among the students. Venkaiah Naidu appreciated Diya who is a student committee member of KR Narayanan Foundation after explaining about the programme. READ MORE

Studied journalism; works as dog catcher: Sally, the Prez's medal winner

Thrissur: Sally has completed her course in journalism in first class. Later, she completed one more course from Ooty Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS) – Para-vet and ABC Programme Manager's course. Then she got her favourite job as a dog catcher. Sally is the only certified woman dog catcher in Kerala. She says that she is doing the job with 100 per cent satisfaction and dedication.

Now she is catching dogs for Malappuram district panchayat. The global animal protection organization Humane Society International is implementing the animal birth control and anti-rabies programme in the district. A 8-member team, including two doctors, is working for it. Sally is working as the dog catcher in the team. Sally is the only woman and Malayali among the 6 dog catchers in the team. READ MORE
