After 60 years, Jews reach Mala for light festival

A Jewish family who had migrated to Israel long back has reached Mala, an old Jewish settlement in Thrissur district. Celebrating Hanukkah, a Jewish festival of lights, they performed religious rituals at the Synagogue here. Marking a historic moment in the history of Jewish settlement in Mala, the Jews gathered at the Synagogue for worship on Wednesday after 60 years.

A professor becomes a successful caregiver for cancer patients

Prof. Ramani Tharayil has been able to empathize with the pain of the patients ever since she was the principal of Kottayam BCM College. When she retired from service 17 years ago, she told her husband Dr. K. C. Joseph that she wanted to do something to help cancer patients during her retirement life.

Prof. Ramani created beautiful craftworks using the waste pieces of clothes from tailoring shops and sold them to her acquaintances. Knowing her intention of charity, her friends and relatives accepted her idea with open heart. READ MORE

Wife suffers burns, Joseph invents machine to make cooking 'risk-free'

A loving husband should be like Malappuram native Joseph. When his wife suffered burns while filtering cooked rice, it made him think about a new safe method for it. 

An electrician by profession, N T Joseph then went on to design a modern rice filter to make the process risk-free. Joseph has applied for the patent of the machine, christened ‘Consova Rice Dryer’. The machine is the result of years of hard work. READ MORE

Huge collection of money found in beggar Chachi's shed after death

A huge collection of money was found from a shed, where a beggar woman was found dead the other day. It is assumed that the notes and coins amount to around Rs 1 lakh. The money was found from the single room shed, where Chettikad Palliparambil Rosamma (68) aka Chachi, had been living and later found dead.

The relatives, neighbours and natives have not yet completed counting the money. They counted the money up to Rs 68,865 by evening, which include crumpled currencies. The crumpled notes are learnt to be about Rs 10,000. READ MORE
