PSC continues to be the hot favorite; applicants cross 1 crore
Kochi: The Kerala Public Service commission (PSC) in the recent years have become everyone’s favorite. The government jobs are gaining the glamour status that everyone is looking for. In the financial year 2016-2017, 1.02 crore people have applied for various exams conducted by PSC.
Many are opting for PSC jobs, even for the clerical posts, abandoning their well-paid corporate jobs in private sector. The number of applicants in 2017-2018 has not been calculated.
Better salaries and privileges, the crisis existing in IT, Gulf and private sector, downfall in the traditional job sector contribute to people preferring government jobs over others.
Even if the applicants are increasing in number every year, certain reserved categories do not have enough qualified applicants. Six posts, including Junior Arabic teacher in SC/ST category, Mathematics teacher in College education department, Physics teacher in Non-vocational department, do not have applicants.
Also Arabic teachers are not available in primary level. Even after notifying as ‘No Candidate Available’ for certain posts and calling for Latin Catholic, OBC, Ezhava, Other Christian, Viswakarma, Dheerava candidates to this post, it still remains vacant. The main reason is that these categories do not learn Arabic.
