MSc in Cognitive Science at IIT Gandhi Nagar: Apply by Jan 15
Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhi Nagar, has invited applications for admission to the MSc in Cognitive Science Programme offered by it for 2018.
Cognitive science is an interdisciplinary study of cognition. As a discipline, Cognitive science predominantly interfaces with philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, computer science, anthropology and linguistics. The objective of the Master’s program is to offer students from different backgrounds, breadth of knowledge and research techniques in a wide range of areas in Cognitive Science.
Basic framework of the curriculum will include the core courses, electives and a research project. Courses include Foundations of Cognitive science, Fundamentals of Cognitive Psychology, Computational models of Cognition, Philosophy of Mind, Biology of Neural & Cognitive Processes, Cognition & Emotion, Perception & Experience, Attention and Perception, Human Computer Interaction & Affective Computing, Learning & Decision making, Computational Neuroscience, Neuroimaging Methods, Introduction to Paleoneuropsychology, Cognition and Culture, Anthropological Perspectives on the Human Mind, Learning and Memory, Behavioural Economics etc.
Eligibility: Applicant should have Bachelor’s degree (B.A., B.Sc., B.Tech, BCom, MBBS) in any discipline with a minimum of 55% (5.5 CGPA for students with letter grades/CGPA) aggregate marks for General/OBC category candidates and at least 50% (5.0 CGPA for students with letter grades/CGPA) aggregate marks for SC, ST and PD category candidates in the qualifying degree.
Those who would be completing Bachelor’s degree in the academic year 2017-18 are also eligible to apply.
Selection: Short-listing of the applicants will be based on the overall credentials such as Marks in the qualifying examinations, academic achievements and aptitude for cognitive science. Admission to MSc Program is offered on the basis of entrance test and interview to be held at IIT Gandhinagar. The final selection will be based on academic records, aptitude for cognitive science, written test and interview. The Institute may also offer admission to a few outstanding candidates based on academic records without calling them for written test and/or interview.
Those appearing for the Test/Interview will be reimbursed any amount exceeding Rs.750/- for to and fro single second-sleeper class railway fare by the shortest route from their place of residence to the Institute /venue of the Test / Interview on production of evidence (railway ticket) in support of the claim.
Financial Support: Eligible candidates admitted to the program will receive a monthly scholarship of Rs. 5,000/-. The stipend support will be renewed per semester subject to a student’s continued satisfactory progress in the program.
Travel Scholarships: Institute encourages MSc students to present their research work at national and international conferences, and provides travel scholarships of up to Rs. 60000/- to such students.
Hostel Facility: All students admitted are eligible for hostel accommodation on a sharing basis.

Applicants are not required to send the hard copy of the application form to the Institute. However, they should carry a hard copy of the application form with a photograph and all the documents (testimonials, certificates, publications, work experience and research/professional experience), in original at the time of interview.
List of short-listed candidates will be made available in the website on January 22, 2018. Test and interview will be held on March 10 & 11, 2018. The list of selected candidates will be put in the website on March 19, 2018. The last date for payment of fees will be April 19, 2018.
