Large-scale encroachers to be taken to task: CM
Thiruvananthapuram: Comprehensive rules should be framed to check the encroachment of government land in Idukki district, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
"As the initial step of the eviction drive, large-scale encroachers will be taken to task. The government action will deter anyone from resorting to such tactics in future," the CM told media persons after the all-party meeting here on Sunday.
"Even if religious institutions are involved, the encroachment should be treated as an offence. Todays all-party meeting discussed eviction of encroachments. The attendees offered wholehearted support for issuance of title deeds to those who migrated before January 1, 1977 and eviction of encroachments. Title deeds will be distributed at Idukki on May 22. This cannot be accomplished in a single day. Documents will be handed over to the rest of the eligible persons in a phased banner. It will take nearly two years to complete the process," he said.
"Another significant topic of discussion was the conservation of ecology in Munnar. Government will take appropriate action after considering the suggestions put forth at the meeting," the CM said.
"The labourers are lacking proper accommodation facilities. Priority will be given to provide them housing facilities," Pinarayi added.
"The encroachers believe that the rules and regulations are not applicable to them. They will be dealt with strict action. The land leased for plantations are being used for other purposes. Action will be initiated against those flouting norms," he said.
"Some have encroached land and constructed buildings while some others possess land and are using it for commercial purposes. They lack any ownership documents. Land handed over for accommodation and farming are used other purposes. This apart, fake title deeds exist. Also, some properties are being sold off before the stipulated timeframe," he noted.
"The pollution of rivers in Idukki needs to be addressed urgently," the CM added.
