Thiruvananthapuarm: The National Banana Festival of 2018 will be hosted by Kerala. The festival that would showcase the wide diversity of bananas in India and diverse uses of it will be organised from February 17 to 21, 2018 at Kalliyoor in Thiruvananthapuram.

The festival will bring together a large number of farmers, businessmen, academicians, machinery manufacturers, agro-biotech companies and researchers from different parts of the country.

The main aim of the festival is to create awareness about the different varieties of banana and its uses among the public.

The festival is jointly organized by Centre for Innovation in Science and Social action (CISSA), Kalliyoor Grama Panchayat, Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) acknowledged by United Nations University, Mitraniketan Krishi Vigyan Kendra. ICAR-National Centre for Banana, Tiruchirappalli, UNESCO New Delhi, State – Central governments as well as NGOs working in this sector.

The fest will also showcase seminars in national levels, exhibitions, training programs and farmers meets.

Kalliyoor panchayat has been adopted by MP Suresh Gopi to make it efficient in Plantain farming under the Prime Minister’s Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana program.
